School Readiness sessions are designed for children aged 3 years and above to build the confidence, independence, and foundational skills needed for a successful transition to primary school through engaging, evidence informed learning experiences.
School Readiness Program
School Readiness Program
School Readiness sessions are delivered in small groups to create a calm, supportive, and engaging environment where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to learn.
Each 75 minute session is thoughtfully planned to build the essential skills children need for a confident transition to primary school. Sessions follow a consistent structure and routine, helping children feel secure, understand expectations, and participate with confidence while allowing opportunities for exploration, creativity, and meaningful learning.
My teaching approach is warm, positive, and evidence informed. Within the small group setting, I provide encouragement, guidance, and appropriate support to help each child participate with confidence, develop new skills, and experience success at their own pace.
Regular communication is an important part of the program. Parents and carers will receive personalised Feedback Cards throughout the program, highlighting their child's learning focus, strengths, achievements, and next learning goals. Alongside the online portfolio, these updates provide meaningful insight into your child's progress and help maintain a strong partnership between home and Bright Minds with Miss P, ensuring we work together to support your child's learning and development.

Literacy Skills
Recognition of both uppercase and lowercase letters, phonological awareness through sound exploration, and the use of Cued Articulation to support the clear understanding of individual sounds within words. I also nurture name recognition and writing readiness, strengthen story listening and comprehension skills, and enrich vocabulary through meaningful conversation and shared reading experiences.
Where appropriate, your child will engage in segmenting and blending sounds to build words, while developing early reading skills through short, predictable texts that strengthen decoding, fluency, and confidence.

Numeracy Skills
Number recognition and counting, with a focus on developing one to one correspondence. Children explore shapes, colours, and patterns while being introduced to early measurement concepts such as big and small, more and less. Through simple, hands on problem solving experiences with numbers, I encourage confidence, logical thinking, and a positive approach to mathematics from the very beginning.

Social & Emotional Skills
Development of social and emotional skills, helping children build confidence and independence. Through guided activities, children practice sharing, cooperation, and patience, as well as transitioning smoothly between activities. Students will participate in structured social story sessions to develop social understanding and appropriate responses.

Fine Motor Skills
Development of fine motor skills through activities designed to strengthen pencil grip, tracing, and pre-writing strokes. Children also engage in cutting, threading, and other hand strengthening exercises that enhance hand- eye coordination, laying a strong foundation for confident writing and everyday tasks.

Cognitive & Learning Readiness
Strengthen cognitive skills by focusing on following instructions, including one and two step directions, and developing listening and attention abilities. Through memory and recall activities, as well as sorting, matching, and sequencing, children enhance their thinking skills. Problem solving is encouraged through engaging, play based activities that make learning both fun and meaningful.

Language and Communication
Expressive and receptive language skills, helping children share their ideas, ask questions, and understand instructions with ease. I support the development of turn taking and conversational skills, while also building confidence in speaking, whether in small groups or one on one settings.
